London Lighting The Future

My final outcome, which is an A2 developed tube map piece, displaying the history of light. The outcome itself was manipulated on Photoshop, which uses a different underground line for each and every different development of light. I developed my idea in order to fit a specific criteria suitable for the brief  titled ‘London Lighting The Future’.

My main influence to the idea was Harry Beck, designer of the tube map as the tube map design was based on an electrical circuit and this is how I linked the initial idea to the theme light. The different variables I chose were, the history of Gas and Electrical lighting in London, Laser development, Light therapy, History of Radiography, History of light bulbs, History of light and also the Electro-magnetic spectrum. These areas I felt were most influential to the title of the piece.

In evaluation the process I went through to sort out which topic went where on the map and it paid off as I found it very difficult at first to sort each of the lines out appropriately and efficiently. This process lead me to discovering the importance of hierarchy determining the lines and the link it had to each variable. As this brief was to design a piece to be exhibited for the International year of light sponsored by UNESCO, I chose to include both the logos and to link the theme to the outcome but I also chose to manipulate the Underground logo into a light bulb following the traditional colour scheme.

All in all I believe the outcome was a success, as I believe it met the requirements of the brief and was appropriate for my target audience, which I identified. If I were to redo and improve the project I would set a more thorough schedule of work and require more feedback not just from my tutor and peers to enhance the quality of work.
