modular typeface - imply

This was the first step to my Typography project influenced by Jan Van Toorn. This modular typeface was created by extensive research and a series of developments carried out over 4 weeks. The three elements which represent Jan Van Toorn as a Typographer that influenced my typeface are Continuity, Manipulative and Subjective.

The quote that I felt contributes to my typeface is “The problem of design today is that it is more fascinated by the visual, as a realistic imitation or decoration, and not by the image as a subjective narrative and interpretive element”. To conclude I decided to name it ‘Imply’. The thought process behind this explores JVT intension throughout his work.
